Research Interests and Background

-Cultural policy surrounding China

-Creative industries and innovation in China

-Audio-visual industry policy and development in China, South Korea, and Taiwan

-Television formats in Asia

Author of China’s New Creative Clusters: Governanance Human Capital and Investment (2011) , and Created in China: the Great New Leap Forward (2007). Editor of How Creativity is Changing China by Li Wuwei (2011) and has published more than 100 articles on Chinese media and culture over the past decade.

I am an adjunct professor at QUT as of 2021 and I was previously a Professor of Chinese Media and Cultural Studies at Curtin University, with a PHD from Griffith University. I am the author and main editor of 18 books and publications about China’s communication and media policies. I was working beforehand as an ARC member in the Australian Research Council centre of excellence for creative industries and innovation.
